Lao PDR and Republic of Korea Strengthen Cooperation in Drug Rehabilitation Work

KPL The Drug Control and Inspection Office of the Police General Department, Ministry of Public Security, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Lao PDR, held a training on drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation on October 21, 2025.


The opening ceremony was co-chaired by Lieutenant Colonel Chanthala Kongthavong, Deputy Head of the Drug Control and Inspection Office, and Mr. Lee Dong-gyu, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Lao PDR. Trainers and the Mekong-ROK Project team from the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of the Republic of Korea also took part, along with participants from drug treatment and rehabilitation centers at both central and local levels.

The training aimed to enhance the quality and effectiveness of drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation through staff capacity building, policy development, and improved management practices. It also sought to promote the exchange of lessons learned between the Lao PDR and the Republic of Korea and to explore strategies for reducing drug abuse.

The sessions also included forums for discussion and experience sharing, aimed at strengthening coordination and improving outcomes in drug rehabilitation efforts nationwide.
