(KPL/VNA)Typhoon Kajiki is bringing to Laos widespread thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds, with local efforts focused on ensuring public safety and minimising damage.

The Lao Central Disaster Management Committee issued a notice on August 25, directing authorities at all levels to prepare for the storm's impact by warning the public to stay alert, designating temporary evacuation sites, and securing valuables and livestock in safe locations.

The Lao Department of Meteorology and Hydrology advised communities to be vigilant and prepared for the risk of continued heavy rains that could cause landslides and flash floods. It is necessary to closely monitor weather forecasts and warnings issued by authorities, it said.

Additionally, officials from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment met on the same day to discuss and monitor potential disasters related to the typhoon. The ministry has appointed a 24-hour monitoring team to track water levels and weather conditions.

In response to ongoing risks from the storm, the Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd. announced an extension of the temporary suspension of all passenger train services on August 26.
