Lao, Russian Foreign Ministers Hold Bilateral Talks on Sidelines of ASEAN Meeting

KPL Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane held bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on July 10, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), taking place from July 7–11.

(KPL) Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane held bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on July 10, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), taking place from July 7–11.

The two ministers highly valued their meeting, noting it reflects a tradition of bilateral consultations between Laos and Russia during regional and international events. They emphasized that such exchanges significantly contribute to strengthening the longstanding friendship and enhancing cooperation based on the strategic partnership between the Lao PDR and the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the progress of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding collaboration in various areas. These include economy and trade, investment, energy, labour, education, defence, legal affairs, culture, and tourism.

They also expressed mutual interest in exploring new opportunities for cooperation that could bring shared benefits to both nations.

On multilateral cooperation, the two ministers appreciated the continued exchange of views and mutual support in international arenas and emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination.

They further praised the positive development of ASEAN-Russia cooperation over the years and expressed readiness to work together to deepen the partnership within the ASEAN framework.
