(KPL) An archaeological excavation team has uncovered an ancient Buddha statue during the third phase of a rescue project along the banks of Don Pheung Kham in Ton Pheung District, Bokeo Province.
According to provincial authorities, the statue—identified as being in the Phra Bang Xana Man style—stands at 32 centimeters tall and 18 centimeters wide (at the shoulders). Although the sculpture is incomplete, it marks a significant find in the ongoing efforts to recover historical and religious artifacts in the region.
Alongside the statue, the team discovered four silver-like artifacts, one item resembling the head of an iron axe, and several fragments of another Buddha statue.

The excavation has been underway for over ten days as part of a broader rescue effort coordinated under a survey and research plan developed by the Akko Company, which joined the project in March 2025.
Officials have confirmed that the archaeological work will continue. If more Buddha statues or important cultural items are found, the authorities will tell local communities and work with them to protect these discoveries.
