(KPL/VNA) Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 16 held a working meeting with his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone, who is in Hanoi to attend the ongoing fourth Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit.

PM Siphandone told his host that this year’s summit is of great significance, reflecting Vietnam’s proactive role and practical contribution to global efforts in promoting green growth, green transition, and sustainable development.

PM Chinh expressed his belief that, with the active participation and valuable input of the Lao and other international delegations, the summit would continue to serve as a key platform for exchanging and promoting cooperation initiatives and mechanisms for green and sustainable growth. The Vietnamese leader also expressed confidence that, under its Party leadership, Laos will continue to achieve substantial successes, improving the lives of its people and enhancing its role and position at regional and international forums.

PM Siphandone noted that Laos always closely follows Vietnam’s achievements and considers them a source of inspiration and encouragement in its own national development.

On bilateral relations, both leaders praised the continued sound, stable, and effective development of the Vietnam–Laos special relationship across a wide range of areas. Political ties have been consistently reinforced through all-level visits and exchanges.

The two PMs agreed to instruct relevant ministries and agencies to effectively implement the outcomes of recent high-level meetings, including the latest one between the two Politburos and the 47th session of the Vietnam–Laos intergovernmental committee. They also affirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral political ties, special trust, and cooperation in defence-security to safeguard social order and safety.

The Government leaders concurred to step up measures to further boost economic, trade, and investment collaboration toward a bilateral trade target of 5 billion USD. They mentioned the effective implementation of major Vietnamese investment projects in Laos and greater integration of their economies, particularly in terms of infrastructure, transport, investment, and tourism. Cooperation will also be deepened in areas like education and training, culture, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges, the PMs said.

The Lao leader commended Vietnam’s proactive and timely engagement with the US regarding recent reciprocal tariff matters. Both PMs underscored the importance of maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region. They agreed to continue working closely together and supporting each other at international and regional platforms such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, with a particular focus on strengthening trilateral ties among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
