(KPL) Since its inception in 2012, the Lao Culture Fund (LCF) has played a key role in enriching the cultural landscape of Laos, supporting everything from traditional weaving to contemporary arts. With applications now open for its 2025 funding cycle, Switzerland remains committed to strengthening an independent, diverse, and participatory cultural sector in Laos.

Switzerland recognizes that culture is not only a reflection of heritage but also a catalyst for sustainable development. By providing Lao artists and cultural groups with funding and resources, the LCF empowers local organizations to bring cultural projects to life, supporting economic growth, community empowerment, and a globally recognized cultural scene.

"Culture is at the heart of sustainable development. By preserving and promoting cultural expressions, we strengthen communities and ensure that future generations can celebrate their heritage. Switzerland is proud to support Lao culture through the LCF, which has been making a lasting impact for over a decade," said Jean-Gabriel Duss, Regional Director of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Mekong Region.

Through the LCF, Switzerland champions artistic innovation, protects cultural heritage, and reinforces local identities. One such example is the 2024 project "My Hometown Culture: Festival, Tradition and Rite," led by the Association for the Promotion and Preservation of Art and Literature (APPAL). This initiative is particularly crucial as traditional writing skills begin to fade, inspiring young writers to continue sharing their stories. Without support like this, such cultural expressions risk being lost. Ms. Dara Kanlaya, National Author and project mentor, expressed her gratitude, saying, "The Lao Culture Fund opens the door to a world of learning and promotes the cultural potential of the Lao people."

Cultural organizations or companies registered in Laos are invited to apply for funding to support projects that promote cultural diversity, social inclusion, and innovation. The LCF offers flexible funding options, covering up to 80% of the total project budget, to ensure the success and sustainability of these vital initiatives.
