(KPL) The Department of Irrigation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry recently held a ceremony to sign a cooperation agreement for the management of a modern rice mill under the Comprehensive Agricultural and Rural Development Project in Savannakhet Province.

During the event, Mr. Sathathep Thammachak, Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation and Coordinator of the Central-Level Comprehensive Agricultural and Rural Development Project, provided an update on the construction progress of the facility. The modern rice mill, located in Nakhamnon Village, Songkhone District, began construction in December 2020 and was completed in 2024.

The facility boasts a production capacity of 5 tons per hour and has undergone two successful trial operations. It includes four drying machines, each capable of drying 30 tons, with a total daily drying capacity of 120 tons. Additionally, the mill features storage facilities capable of holding 9,000 tons of rice, a seed sorting facility, and a 50-ton digital weighing system. Supporting infrastructure includes office buildings, security posts, parking areas, internal roads, and various auxiliary facilities. The total investment for the project is valued at USD 7.8 million.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry; Mr. Bounchom Ubompaserd, Governor of Savannakhet Province; and other relevant officials.
