He commended the success of the 47th Meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation, co-chaired by the prime ministers of Laos and Vietnam on January 9.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding and implementing agreements between their Parties and governments. This includes cooperation on joint projects including Vung Ang Port, Vientiane-Hanoi Expressway, Vientiane-Thakhek-Vung Ang Railway, Power trading, Construction of a coal-fired power plant, and Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park.

On behalf of the Party, State, National Assembly, Armed Forces, and people of Laos, President Thongloun expressed gratitude to Vietnam’s Party, State, National Assembly, Armed Forces, and fraternal people for their consistent support and valuable, timely, and effective assistance to the Lao PDR.

This includes technical support, financial resources, and necessary equipment, which have enabled Laos to successfully fulfill its duties as ASEAN Chair, host of AIPA, and other related meetings in 2024.

Vietnam’s support also helped alleviate hardships faced by Lao people affected by recent flooding.
