(KPL/Prensa Latina)  The death toll in eastern Cuba due to Hurricane Oscar has risen to eight, and two people are still missing, the National Civil Defense General Staff reported on Wednesday.

Two minors, who are currently stable and out of danger, were injured during the impact of the meteorological event.

The agency noted that the people reported missing, a 42-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, are from San Antonio del Sur municipality, in eastern Guantanamo province.

On October 20 and 21, Hurricane Oscar hit several municipalities in Guantanamo, where recovery efforts are gradually advancing, due to ongoing heavy rainfall.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited the Guantanamo municipality of Imías on Wednesday to verify the recovery.

Speaking to local people, Díaz-Canel was interested in the progress in the works on the road, electricity and the supply of resources of all kinds.

The president also visited the Ciro Fría Cabrera polyclinic, which serves a population of more than 21,000 abitants.
