India supported G20 meeting on agriculture

Minister of State Ram Nath Thakur headed the delegation that held bilateral meetings with peers from Japan, the host country, the United States, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to an official report.

In talks between Thakur and Japan’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Sakamoto, the commitment to cooperate in areas such as the use of technology, food processing, cold storage, and addressed the sustainability and productivity of agriculture in India through private investment was ratified.

The Indian delegation also discussed cooperation in science and technology, ethanol production and the export of Indian products to Brazil with the head of the Brazilian Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro.

In a meeting between the Indian minister and Xochitl Torres, US Undersecretary of Agriculture, it was agreed to follow up on talks between the two nations and strengthen exchanges related to climate-smart agriculture, productivity growth, innovation, foresight, crop protection and agricultural credit.

The Indian delegation also held talks with a German delegation led by Ophelia Nick, Parliamentary State Secretary, with whom it was agreed to move forward on agroecology, technical exchanges, application of artificial intelligence in agriculture and support for small farmers. The Indian delegation held similar meetings with Daniel Zeichner, Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs of the United Kingdom; Luis Planas, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain; and Amna Al Dahak, from the Ministry of Environment and Climate of the United Arab Emirates.
