(KPL) The U.S. Department of State hosted the Digital Innovations for Female Entrepreneurs in ASEAN Meeting (DIFEM) on September 11-12, 2024, in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
This event, part of the U.S.-ASEAN Connect Digital Economy Series, supports Laos' ASEAN chairmanship in 2024 by addressing financial gaps in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and promoting the adoption of the ASEAN Roadmap on Digital Trade Standards.
The two-day DIFEM event brought together 75 female entrepreneurs from across ASEAN’s digital economy to engage with private sector technology companies, government officials, and fellow MSMEs.
The focus was on exploring future business opportunities, optimizing operations, and fostering commercial collaboration.
Key discussions at the meeting centered on how emerging economies, like Laos, can leverage AI technology to accelerate economic progress. Industry leaders provided insights into how digital tools and AI can enhance business efficiency and help MSMEs expand their market reach.
Participants also engaged in one-on-one consultations with experts and took part in design sprints to address specific business challenges.
The event featured dynamic panel discussions led by female fintech and AI entrepreneurs. High-level dialogue sessions included U.S. Ambassador to Laos Heather Variava, alongside Indonesian Ambassador Grata Endah Werdaningtyas, Philippine Ambassador Deena Joy Amatong, and Thai Ambassador Morakot Sriswasdi.
These discussions highlighted the critical role of female innovators in driving inclusivity, sustainability, and market expansion within ASEAN’s digital economy.
DIFEM underscored the importance of creating a connected ecosystem of female founders, innovators, and public sector leaders, demonstrating how such collaborations can unlock greater potential for the region's digital economy.
This event served as a platform for U.S., Lao, and ASEAN entrepreneurs to network with industry experts, explore cutting-edge technologies, and discuss strategies for future growth and success.

Timor-Leste is preparing for a better future by promoting the values of peace among its youth through peace education. Recent initiatives and programs in this field, along with their significance, have drawn increasing public attention. With its history of colonization and civil war, the country has come to recognize the importance of peace on a profound level. Against this backdrop, the government and higher education institutions have identified peace education for young people as a national priority. Since 2023, higher education institutions in Timor-Leste have actively responded to the social demand to go beyond mere knowledge transfer and instead foster peaceful values and civic consciousness as a foundation for building sustainable peace.
