Construction of Thakhek Specific Economic Zone to begin next month

(KPL) The Specific Economic Zone in Thakhek district will be a modern development area in Khammuan Province.  Construction will start next month and will require over 5,000 employees for its labour force.

The signing ceremony of the MoU for the supply of technology was held on 30 September between Akane Farm Sole Co. Ltd of Malaysia (the construction company) and Technology Responding Company (the supplier of raw materials).

Under the MoU, the Technology Responding Company will supply the technical equipment including modern electrical appliances to produce a friendly environment during the construction of the Thakhek Specific Economic Zone.

Chief Executive Officer of Akane Farm Sole Co,. Ltd, Mr Raja Azman Shah Bin Raja Ahmad said that they are now clearing land to prepare for the construction which is expected to begin at the end of November.  

This is the first mega project by a Malaysian investor and represents a total investment of 40 trillion kip or almost US$5 billion.

This project will convert this district into a modern area and centre for international finance and community development in the future and will encompass centres for health, tourism, apartments, cars run on electricity, and four and five star hotels with 70 floors.

This project will start on seven hectares and as soon as possible, the company will sign agreements with the government for further land concessions of 15,000 hectares for a total of about US$12 billion.
