“This is a major and very important project because it is the construction of a modern hospital that will help improve healthcare quality in the Lao PDR, particularly in Vientiane. Besides to building the healthcare facilities, the project will also equip the hospital with modern medical equipment and provides training on hospital management and medical treatment for local staff,” said the minister.

The hospital sits on an area of 50,000 sq m (5 ha) with construction actually carried out on an area of over 30,000 sq m.

The China-funded project has been split into two phases with phase I designed for the construction of one 8-storey building and one 4-floor building. Meanwhile, phase II has been dedicated for the development of two buildings - one five-storey building and one four-floor one.

The 600-bed hospital project is expected to be fully completed as the largest and modern and energy efficient hospital in the Lao PDR by the end of 2022.
