(KPL) The Lao Telecommunication Public Company launched on Monday, Aug 31 5G network after months of trial.
Lao Telecom has become the first mobile network to have launched 5G service in the country.
The launch event witnessed the presence of Minister of Post and Telecommunications Thansamay Kommasith, Lao Telecom Director General Souphon Chanthavixay, and other senior officials and staff of the company.
Today’s launch of 5G network aims to realise the policy of the Party and government and the vision of the Ministry in modernization of telecommunication service and its regional and international integration, according to the Lao Telecom Director General.
Many countries in Asia and other parts of the world have introduced 5G in various areas: online business, AI, Internet of Things - IoT, Robotics, manufacturing, agriculture and health.
In the initial stage, Lao Telecom will provide 5G service only in some areas with high population density in Vientiane including Sihome, Anouvong nigh market, Saylom and the main campus of the National University of Laos.
