(KPL) The authorities of Vientiane Province has authorized the Chinese company Ichin Engineering & Construction Lao a 50-year concessional right to develop abandoned Vangvieng Airport as a US$ 200-million tourist complex featuring a five-star hotel, a hospital, a tourism school, a multi-ethnic cultural theater, and a casino, among others.
The complex which will be built in a place of the 16-ha airport is expected to help attract more Chinese tourists and visitors from around the world to touristic Vangvieng.
The multimillion-US-dollar project is expected to create jobs for between 2,000 and 3,000 local families, according to the President of Ichin Engineering & Construction Lao Liu Phuc Quang.
An agreement on the concessional project was signed on February 13 between President of Ichin Engineering & Construction Lao Liu Phuc Quang and Director of the Vientiane Provincial Planning and Investment Department Soukan Vilayrath in the presence of the Governor of Vientiane Province Vidong Xayasone, and representatives of relevant officials of both sides.
The construction of the tourism complex will take 5 years.
“Laos has a huge potential as it is located between China and ASEAN. Importantly, a main Laos-China train station will be belt in Vangvieng. As a result more Chinese visitors will visit Vangvieng so that we have decided to build a tourist complex here,” said Mr. Liu Phuc Quang.
