 (KPL) The SCG (Siam Cement Group) Trading Company Limited will grant 250 scholarships to underprivileged students in rural areas of Laos under SCG’s “Sharing the Dream 2016” project.

            SCG’s “Sharing the Dream” project annually grants scholarships to children and youths who have good behaviour and a strong determination to pursue higher studies, but lack the financial support.

Now in its fifth year in Laos, SCG has increased its provision of scholarships by 20 from last year, aiming to support the cost of school fees and supplies for the upcoming academic year.

The SCG Sharing the Dream project, in cooperation with the Vientiane Capital Education and Sports Department, the SCG Trading Company and Action with Lao Children (ALC), will be implemented in the 2016-2017 academic year.

On 4 November, a committee of the SCG team visited students in Xaythany district who applied for the SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship.

One of the awardees was Miss Teuanchay Thammaheuang, a 16 year old year six student of Dongbang secondary school, Xaythany district, who applied for the SCG fund by describing her life and goals on the application form.

Teuanchay has lived with grandfather and grandmother since she was 7 months old.  Her mother left at that time.

Teuanchay has to help her grandfather after school and uses her free time to work on a rice and vegetable farm to earn money to help her family and to pay for her education fees.

            Everyday, she walks about 6 km from home to school.  She said that she used to use a bicycle, but it was stolen.

            Teuanchay said that her dream is to become a coach because she loves taking part in athletic competitions.

KPL
