KPL A section of Phou Phaman Road in Khounkham District, Khammuan Province, has been washed away following days of heavy rainfall, leaving the route impassable to all vehicles and disrupting transportation in the area.

According to local authorities, the incident occurred on August 5, 2026, when floodwaters triggered by continuous rain severely eroded the road foundation, causing part of the roadway to collapse. The damaged section has been closed to traffic while relevant authorities assess the situation and begin repair work.

The road damage is the latest impact of persistent heavy rain affecting transport infrastructure across several parts of Khammuan Province, where flooding and erosion have disrupted travel and increased the risk of further damage.

Authorities have advised residents, travellers, and transport operators to avoid the affected route and use alternative roads where possible. Motorists planning to travel through the area are urged to check the latest road conditions and identify suitable detours before departing to minimise delays and avoid becoming stranded.

Officials also called on the public to closely follow updates from local authorities regarding repair progress and the eventual reopening of the road.

With the rainy season continuing, motorists are advised to exercise heightened caution, particularly in mountainous areas where prolonged rainfall increases the risk of landslides, road erosion, and flash floods. Authorities urged all road users to remain vigilant and comply with safety advisories to ensure safe travel.
