A National Assembly member from Champassak Province has called on the Government to extend the railway network to southern Laos, strengthen administrative reforms, and ensure the equitable allocation of new civil service positions to support national development.
Speaking during the First Extraordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly on July 6, Alounxay Sounnalat, a National Assembly member representing Constituency No. 15 in Champassak Province, outlined several recommendations while discussing the Government's socio-economic development report.
He urged the Government to prioritize the expansion of the railway network to southern Laos, saying the project would unlock the region's production and trade potential, enhance connectivity, and promote sustainable economic growth.
Mr. Alounxay also called for stronger implementation of import management policies, noting that existing measures remain inconsistent. He recommended reviewing the division of responsibilities between central and local authorities to improve administrative efficiency, strengthen governance, and enhance public service delivery.
On human resource development, he welcomed the Government's plan to recruit 2,500 new civil servants, but stressed that the positions should be allocated fairly across the country based on actual needs.
He proposed giving priority to healthcare personnel and volunteer teachers who have served local communities for many years, saying permanent appointments would recognize their contributions, boost morale, and strengthen the delivery of essential public services.
The recommendations formed part of the National Assembly's deliberations on measures to accelerate socio-economic development, improve public administration, and enhance the effectiveness of government services nationwide.
