KPL Laos and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and resilience in the face of growing geopolitical and global economic uncertainties through a joint scientific seminar held in Vientiane.

The event, organized by the National Institute for Economic and Social Sciences (LASES) in partnership with the Australian Embassy, focused on “Strengthening Economic Resilience Amid Geoeconomics” and brought together policymakers, academics, researchers and development partners to discuss strategies for addressing regional and global economic challenges.
Opening the seminar, LASES Vice President Dr. Sthabundith Insisienmay said the rapidly changing international environment, including tensions in the Middle East and shifting global trade dynamics, requires countries to strengthen cooperation and build more resilient economies. He noted that the event was the third in a series of joint seminars between LASES and the Australian Embassy.

Australian Ambassador to Laos Megan Jones highlighted the 74-year diplomatic relationship between the two countries, emphasizing that economic resilience is essential for sustaining growth and responding to external shocks.
She said Australia sees significant opportunities to deepen cooperation with Laos in areas such as clean energy, sustainable agriculture, resilient food systems and responsible mining, while continuing to support transport connectivity, trade facilitation, public financial management and economic governance.

The seminar featured presentations on Laos’ macroeconomic outlook, the impact of Middle East developments on the Lao economy, regional geopolitical challenges, and Australia’s policy approaches to strengthening economic security.
Participants also exchanged views on practical measures to enhance regional cooperation and improve resilience against global economic disruptions.
The event concluded with discussions aimed at promoting continued collaboration between Lao and Australian experts and institutions to support sustainable and inclusive economic development.
