KPL The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has launched a 10-year master plan aimed at guiding sustainable tourism development in Nakhasang, Don Det, Don Khon and surrounding areas in Khong District, Champasak Province.

The plan, covering 2026-2036, was presented at a meeting chaired by Minister of Culture and Tourism Suansavanh Viyaket on June 3.

Officials described the Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands) area as one of Laos' most important tourism destinations and a strategic hub for future tourism growth. The master plan is designed to balance investment and infrastructure development with environmental protection, ecosystem conservation and the preservation of local cultural heritage.

Participants reviewed zoning plans and development guidelines intended to improve tourism management, infrastructure planning and land use across the area.
The minister called for closer cooperation among local authorities, businesses and communities to ensure effective implementation of the plan. She also instructed authorities to strictly enforce regulations and take action against any development projects that violate the approved master plan.
Officials said the initiative is expected to support sustainable tourism growth, create more income opportunities for local communities and attract more domestic and international visitors to the Four Thousand Islands region.
