President Receives Vietnam’s Chief of General Staff, Reaffirms Strong Bilateral Ties

KPL On April 22, 2026, Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao PDR, received a courtesy visit from Nguyen Tan Cuong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.

(KPL) On April 22, 2026, Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao PDR, received a courtesy visit from Nguyen Tan Cuong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong is leading a high-level delegation on an official working visit to Laos from April 22–23, 2026.

During the meeting, President Thongloun highly valued the visit, noting that it contributes significantly to strengthening the “great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation” between Laos and Vietnam. He emphasized that the visit further enhances strategic cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces through continued mutual support and the exchange of experience.

Both sides expressed their commitment to ensuring that bilateral relations remain strong and continue to develop in the years ahead.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm reception and reported on the objectives and planned activities of the delegation during its visit to Laos. He reaffirmed the continued commitment of the Vietnamese military to close cooperation with its Lao counterpart.

The meeting highlighted the longstanding tradition of high-level exchanges and close military cooperation that underpin the special relationship between the two neighboring nations.
