(KPL)  The 12th National Congress of the Lao Front for National Development officially opened Tuesday in Vientiane under the theme of strengthening national unity and enhancing the organization’s role to a higher level of quality and effectiveness.

The congress is being held under the slogan: “Enhancing the Role of the Lao Front for National Development towards a New Quality, Strengthening Great Solidarity, and Mobilizing the Forces of the Entire Lao Nation to Build an Independent and Self-Reliant Economy.”

The opening ceremony was presided over by Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, President of the LFND Central Committee. The event was attended by Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao PDR, along with Party and State leaders, former senior officials, and invited delegates.

In his opening address, Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune stated that the congress will review the implementation of the 11th Central Committee’s tasks and evaluate the performance of LFND branches nationwide over the past five years.

He emphasized that the LFND has served as a core force in strengthening unity among the country’s multi-ethnic population. The Front has also worked closely with Party-State organizations, mass organizations, and local authorities to promote national development.

He added that the LFND has played an important role in encouraging citizens to participate in socio-economic development activities. These efforts include promoting production, agriculture, and livestock development to increase income and gradually reduce poverty.

The Front has also contributed to public education by raising awareness of the Constitution, laws, and Party-State policies. In addition, it has mobilized support from both domestic and international partners to assist with disaster relief and epidemic prevention.

One of the notable achievements highlighted was the implementation of the “Solidarity and Reconciliation Families and Villages” campaign. This initiative has been linked to poverty reduction efforts and has helped create new momentum for grassroots development.

During the congress, delegates are expected to review and adopt several important documents. These include the political report, the LFND development plan, and revised regulations for the 12th term.

The congress will also review the overall leadership performance of the 11th Central Committee. In addition, delegates will endorse the appointment of the 12th Central Committee, including the President, Vice Presidents, members of the Standing Committee, and the President of the Inspection Committee.

The new leadership structure is expected to be more inclusive and representative. It will increase participation from multi-ethnic groups, social sectors, religious communities, women, youth, intellectuals, and Lao nationals living abroad.

The congress is considered an important milestone in strengthening national solidarity and mobilizing all sectors of society to build an independent and self-reliant economy.
