(KPL) Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Phoxay Sayyasone led a delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Korea from April 18–25, 2026, to strengthen bilateral labour cooperation and monitor the welfare of Lao workers.
During the visit, the Minister met with mayors and senior officials from several key municipalities, including Pocheon, Yeoju, Icheon, Andong, and Muan. Discussions focused on reviewing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the recruitment and deployment of Lao seasonal workers under the E-8 visa programme.
Minister Phoxay Sayyasone expressed appreciation to Korean authorities for their support and care for Lao workers. He also listened to challenges and recommendations from local authorities to further improve cooperation. He requested continued efforts to effectively manage the workforce, protect the rights and interests of Lao workers, and enhance their skills so they can contribute to development upon returning home.
In addition to official meetings, the delegation conducted field visits to farms to observe the working and living conditions of Lao labourers. The Minister encouraged workers to remain patient and diligent, comply with local laws and regulations, and uphold the dignity and reputation of Laos. He also advised them to save their earnings and gain practical experience to improve their future livelihoods.
The visit reflects the Lao government’s continued commitment, through the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, to strengthening labour cooperation with the Republic of Korea and supporting Lao workers abroad. It also served as a gesture of encouragement ahead of International Labour Day.
