(KPL) Over 70 drawings and paintings depicting Lao culture, lifestyles and nature drawn by a team of Russian artists were revealed to the public via local media in Vientiane Capital on 19 January.

The Russian artistic team, led by top Russian artist Mr. Vladimir Anisimov, spent nine days creating the paintings in Vientiane Capital and Luang Prabang Province earlier this month.

“Most impressive are the temples and Lao women's costumes which have been well preserved,” Mr. Anisimov said, adding, “This is the 7th ASEAN country that we have visited and painted.  We focus on the lifestyles and cultures in the hope of making Russian art better known in the world and speaking to the Russians about the world in the language of art.”

“We will be travelling to all of the ASEAN member countries to take photos and make paintings.  The works will be displayed at the ASEAN-Russia Culture Centre in Moscow and ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta,” he explained.

The exhibition is to mark the 20th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between Russia and ASEAN which will take place in May of this year.

He added that they will be going to Vietnam and then Myanmar next month.

The Russian Bureau of Creative Expeditions was set up in 1991 in the Moscow studio of an artist named Vladimir Anisimov.

In 2011, when the 15th anniversary of the official dialogue partnership between Russia and ASEAN was commemorated, it seemed natural to start what might become the biggest of the Bureau’s projects - an expedition through all the countries that comprise ASEAN.

Last year, Mr. Anisimov and his colleagues covered more than half of distance: they successfully accomplished missions to six ASEAN nations including Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand.

Hopefully, before Russia and ASEAN celebrate their two decades of dialogue later this year, this effort will result in the emergence of a major collection of works depicting the natural beauty of ASEAN countries and the lifestyles of its peoples.
