Party and State leaders of Laos gathered on Sunday, 22 March, to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony honouring the nation’s revolutionary legacy.

The ceremony was led by Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Lao PDR, alongside senior members of the Party Central Committee and the Government.
Floral tributes were laid at the Unknown Soldiers Monument in honour of fallen heroes. Leaders also placed flower baskets before the statue of Kaysone Phomvihane at the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum, paying tribute to his enduring legacy and leadership.

The commemorative event reflected deep respect and gratitude towards generations of Lao revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives for national liberation. Under the leadership of the Party, their struggle culminated in victory and the historic proclamation of independence, leading to the establishment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on 2 December 1975.

Officials emphasised that the ceremony also served as a reminder of the values upheld by President Kaysone Phomvihane, widely regarded as a national hero. His lifelong dedication to the cause of independence, unity among ethnic groups, and national development continues to inspire the country’s ongoing progress.
President Kaysone is remembered not only for his patriotism and leadership, but also for his vision and ability to adapt revolutionary principles to the realities of Laos. His contributions laid the foundation for safeguarding the nation and advancing development in line with Party principles.
The anniversary observance reaffirmed the Party’s commitment to preserving its revolutionary heritage while continuing to guide the nation’s future development.
