(KPL) Authorities in Vientiane have announced strict enforcement measures prohibiting unauthorized vehicles from entering the dedicated lanes of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Vientiane system.

Under Decision No. 219 issued by the Mayor of Vientiane, all general vehicles—including motorcycles, cars, and pickup trucks—are prohibited from driving or parking in BRT lanes from 06:00 to 22:00 daily.

Drivers who violate the regulation will face warnings and fines in accordance with traffic laws. If an unauthorized vehicle enters the BRT lane after service hours and causes an accident or damages public property, including BRT stations, the offender will be required to cover the full cost of repairs and pay an additional 10 percent penalty of the damage value.

Exceptions apply only to priority vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, police escort vehicles, and authorized official motorcades.

Authorities have urged the public to strictly comply with traffic regulations to ensure the efficiency of the BRT system and help reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
