(KPL) Authorities and candidates in Mahaxay District have called on citizens of all ethnic groups to fully exercise their right to vote as the country prepares for the elections of the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Council.

A source from Khammouane Province reported that the elections serve to promote the democratic rights of Lao citizens by enabling voters to select capable representatives to serve in both central and local state bodies.

The elections are regarded as a significant political event that strengthens the role of representative institutions in safeguarding the rights and interests of the multi-ethnic Lao people, while supporting socio-economic development in line with national policies and the outcomes of the 12th Party Congress.

On February 18, 2026, fourteen candidates for the National Assembly of Laos from Constituency 12 of Khammouane Province conducted a campaign visit in Mahaxay District. The candidates were welcomed by provincial and district leaders, election officials, and local residents.

During the event, candidates presented their qualifications, achievements, and policy visions, affirming their readiness to serve the people if elected. They emphasized the importance of the National Assembly’s role and encouraged eligible citizens aged 18 and over to participate actively in the vote scheduled for Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Mahaxay District comprises 68 villages and one focal area, with a population of 42,206, including 21,261 women. The district has 55 polling units and 24,675 eligible voters, of whom 12,498 are women. Authorities estimate that approximately 20,575 voters, including 10,660 women, will participate.

Campaign activities were held at the district meeting hall in the morning and continued in the afternoon at focal locations in Nakhma Village and Mahaxay Village.
