Khammouane Business Leader Urges Public Participation in NA, PPC Elections

19/02/2026 10:24
KPL Thaiyaphone Singthong, President of the Khammouane Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said on February 17 in Khammouane Province that the election of members to the 10th National Assembly of Laos and the 5th Provincial People’s Council reflects the continued advancement of the people’s democratic system in the Lao PDR.

Representing the provincial business community, he said the regular five-year elections strengthen representative institutions that safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the multi-ethnic Lao people and contribute to improving the national legal framework through the enactment and revision of laws based on public feedback.

He noted that candidate selection for both bodies has focused on qualified individuals who adhere to Party guidelines and state laws. Electoral District 12 in Khammouane Province has 14 candidates contesting National Assembly seats.

Mr. Thaiyaphone said the nomination process involving multiple sectors has helped raise public awareness of civic responsibility and reinforce the principle that state power belongs to the people, is exercised by the people and serves the people. He added that greater public understanding of electoral rights remains necessary.

On behalf of the provincial business community, he called on all eligible citizens aged 18 and above to participate actively in the election and carefully select capable representatives to strengthen governance and national development.
