Inside Phu Bia Mining: Media Tour Operations and Environmental Safeguards

KPL A delegation of Lao media representatives visited Phu Bia Mining’s Huaxay and Phoukham operations from February 9 to 11, gaining firsthand insight into the company’s mining activities, underground operations, and environmental management practices.

The three-day visit aims to promote public understanding of Phu Bia Mining’s ongoing development work and to demonstrate the company’s commitment to transparency, responsible mining, and open communication.

Journalists toured key operational areas, including processing facilities and underground mining zones, while receiving detailed briefings from company management and technical experts.

During the visit, media representatives observed current production activities and learned about recent improvements made across the sites. Particular attention was given to environmental protection measures, safety systems, and rehabilitation efforts, reflecting the company’s focus on sustainable and responsible operations.

Mr. Andrew Woodward, Communications Manager of Phu Bia Mining, said the media visit highlights the company’s openness and willingness to engage with the public through accurate and direct information sharing.

“Over the past year, we have made significant progress in improving operational efficiency, strengthening safety standards, and enhancing our environmental management systems,” Mr. Woodward said. “Welcoming the media to see our operations firsthand is an important part of building trust and understanding with the wider community.” 

Journalists were also given the opportunity to ask questions and exchange views with the management and technical staff of the company, discussing future development plans as well as challenges facing the mining sector in Laos. These open discussions allowed for a deeper understanding of both the technical aspects of mining operations and the company’s long-term development strategy.

The Lao media delegation was led by Mr. Vantula Rucknoud, Head of the Permanent Secretariat of the Party Central Committee’s Propaganda and Training Board, along with Mr. Somsak Sakounkham, Deputy Director of the Mass Media Department, and other relevant officials. The delegation emphasized the importance of accurate reporting and firsthand observation in communicating mining-related information to the public.

Phu Bia Mining welcomed the visit as part of its ongoing efforts to engage constructively with the media and stakeholders. The company reaffirmed its commitment to sharing transparent, timely, and factual information about its operations, environmental stewardship, and contributions to national development.

Through continued collaboration with the media, Phu Bia Mining aims to support informed public dialogue while advancing its long-term goals of safe, efficient, and sustainable mining in Laos.
