(KPL) On February 5, 2026, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Vientiane, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone of the Lao PDR and his delegation held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The meeting took place on the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Laos as he accompanied To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on his state visit to the Lao PDR.
During the talks, the two Prime Ministers highly valued the important achievements in national defense, security, and socio-economic development attained by their respective countries. They welcomed the successful outcomes of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Both sides reviewed the results of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on future strategic directions, reaffirming that cooperation in politics, foreign affairs, national defense, and public security continues to serve as a strong pillar of the Laos–Vietnam special relationship.
The leaders also expressed satisfaction with the completion and effective operation of several strategic infrastructure projects and discussed measures to further promote economic connectivity. They agreed to accelerate key connectivity projects, including the Lao–Vietnam Railway and the Vientiane–Hanoi Expressway.
In addition, the two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in energy, mining, education, culture, digital transformation, trade, and investment.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone warmly welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation, stressing that the meeting reflects the high priority both Parties and States attach to preserving and promoting the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, which he described as a priceless and unique heritage.
On behalf of the Lao Party, State, and people, he expressed sincere gratitude for Vietnam’s consistent, timely, and effective support for Laos over the years.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Lao side for the warm and friendly reception and reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to closely coordinating with Laos to effectively implement signed agreements, bringing practical benefits to the peoples of both countries.
