(KPL) A handover ceremony for the position of Secretary of the Attapeu Provincial Party Committee was held on January 22, 2026, at the Provincial Assembly Hall in Attapeu Province.

The ceremony marked the transition from Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany, Member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, to Mr. Bountheung Douangsavanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, who was appointed as the new Provincial Party Secretary.

The event was presided over by Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, Member of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee and Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, and attended by senior officials from central, provincial, and district levels.

On the occasion, Mr Visouk Phomphithack, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee of the Party, read out official decrees, including:

Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany being reassigned to a senior position at the Ministry of Public Security, in accordance with Order No. 05/PMCC dated January 16, 2026.

Mr. Bountheung Douangsavanh being appointed Secretary of the Attapeu Provincial Party Committee under Resolution No. 14/PMCC dated January 16, 2026.

Mr. Thanousay Bansalith being appointed Chairman of the Provincial Administration Committee under Prime Ministerial Decree No. 821/PM dated December 23, 2025.

Mr. Soulivong Aphayvong and Mr. Silay Sisavengsouk being appointed Vice Chairmen of the Provincial Administration Committee.

In his address, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone emphasized the importance of unity and effective leadership in implementing Party and State policies. He urged the provincial leadership to strengthen Party discipline, promote internal unity, and enhance inspection and supervision to prevent corruption.

The Prime Minister also called for the effective implementation of the two National Agendas to address economic challenges, including inflation, high living costs, financial constraints, and exchange rate fluctuations. He stressed the need to prioritize road connectivity, promote tourism development, expand commercial production to reduce imports and increase exports, and create sustainable revenue sources for the province.

Additionally, he encouraged efforts to improve people’s livelihoods, reduce poverty through self-reliance, strengthen state administration based on the rule of law, maintain public security, and streamline organizational structures.

The Prime Minister concluded by urging the provincial leadership to prepare well for the upcoming elections of the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils, and to select capable personnel to promote grassroots political development and advance the Patriotic Competition and Development movement.
