(KPL) The Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU) is preparing a wide range of vibrant activities to mark the 70th anniversary of its founding, commemorated on 1 February 1956 – 1 February 2026.

In a statement to the media on January 15, 2026, Mr. Led Sayaphon, President of the LFTU Central Executive Committee, described the anniversary as a historic milestone for the Lao working class and laborers of all ethnic groups.

He noted that February 1, 1956, marked the decision of the Party Central Committee to establish the LFTU, laying a strong foundation for the organization’s role as a political and social force representing workers nationwide.

Over the past seven decades, the LFTU has grown alongside the nation, fulfilling its mission of political-ideological education, uniting workers, safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, and contributing actively to the struggle for national liberation, as well as to national protection, construction, and development in the new era.

Trade unions at all levels have played an important role in improving the living and working conditions of workers by proposing minimum wage adjustments, enhancing salaries and welfare, resolving labor disputes, promoting labor contracts and collective bargaining agreements, expanding social security coverage, and developing skilled human resources to meet socio-economic development needs.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary, the LFTU has issued guidance for trade unions nationwide to organize meaningful and diverse activities suited to local conditions. These include commemorative ceremonies reviewing the Federation’s 70-year journey, knowledge competitions, blood donation campaigns, free health check-ups, trade fairs showcasing workers’ products, sports competitions, cultural and artistic performances, collective labor activities, visits to veteran trade unionists, and seminars under the theme “Developing Trade Union Work in the New Era.”

At the central level, a grand celebration ceremony will be held at the National Convention Center and broadcast nationwide via video conference, allowing workers and trade union members across the country to take part. A series of accompanying activities, including seminars, exhibitions, health services, and sports and cultural contests, will further enrich the celebration.

On this occasion, Mr. Led Sayaphon called on trade unions at all levels and workers nationwide to actively participate, ensuring the anniversary celebrations are lively, meaningful, and successful, reflecting unity, pride, and the strong spirit of the Lao working class.
