Head of Lao Party External Relations Commission Welcomes New EU Ambassador to Laos

KPL Mr Bounleua Phandanouvong, Head of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee’s External Relations Commission, received a courtesy call from Mr Mark Gallagher, the new Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Lao PDR, on 5 November 2025 in Vientiane.

(KPL) Mr Bounleua Phandanouvong, Head of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee’s External Relations Commission, received a courtesy call from Mr Mark Gallagher, the new Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to the Lao PDR, on 5 November 2025 in Vientiane.

During the meeting, Mr Bounleua extended a warm welcome and congratulations to Ambassador Gallagher on assuming his post. He praised the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Lao PDR and the European Union, which have flourished over the past 50 years.

Mr Bounleua expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued assistance in supporting Laos’s socio-economic development and voiced confidence that the Ambassador’s tenure would further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors. He also reaffirmed the Lao Party and Government’s consistent foreign policy of expanding relations with political parties and countries around the world based on equality, mutual respect, and shared benefit.

Ambassador Gallagher thanked Mr Bounleua for the gracious reception and commended Laos’s progress in national development and its successful chairmanship of ASEAN in 2024. He reaffirmed his commitment to act as a bridge in promoting closer ties and broader cooperation between the Lao PDR and the European Union, including continued support for peace, friendship, and sustainable development at both regional and global levels.

In conclusion, Mr Bounleua wished Ambassador Gallagher good health, happiness, and success in carrying out his diplomatic mission in the Lao PDR.
