KPL In a thrilling showcase of talent and passion, Mr. Tavanh Sengdala emerged as the winner of the first-ever Laos Young Barista Championship 2025, held during the International Coffee and Tea Day (ICTD) celebrations. His exceptional performance earned him not only the top prize of 5 million LAK, but also the honor of representing Laos at the World Barista Championship in Korea this November.

The championship, jointly organized by the Green Cup project and Wonders International, brought together the country’s most promising young baristas to celebrate skill, creativity, and the fast-evolving coffee culture in Laos. From the 12 initial competitors, only five advanced to the finals, where they showcased their mastery of skills, technical precision, and creativity in creating unique coffee and presentations.

Second place went to Ms. Souphinda Vilayseng, who won four million LAK as a cash prize, while Ms. Sengchan Sulikan claimed third place and a prize of two million LAK. Despite fierce competition, organizers praised all participants for their passion and courage, emphasizing that each one contributed to a vibrant celebration of Lao coffee.

“This event is more than a competition,” said a Green Cup representative. “It’s a celebration of the next generation of baristas who will carry Lao coffee to new heights.”

Held as part of ICTD 2025 in Luang Prabang, the championship highlighted the role of coffee and tea as symbols of national pride and rural development. With over 6,400 attendees, the event drew farmers, entrepreneurs, and development partners together to support sustainable value chains and promote Lao coffee and tea on the global stage.

As Mr. Sengdala prepares for the world stage, Laos continues to brew a bright future—one cup at a time—by investing in its youth, its culture, and its sustainable agricultural roots.
