KPL The annual Boat Racing Festival is set to take place from October 4 to 8, 2025, promising a vibrant celebration of Lao culture, community spirit, and economic development.

Mr. Saengsathit Phimmueang, representative of the Chanthabouly District Authority and Chairman of the Festival Organizing Committee, held a press briefing today to confirm the district's full readiness for the upcoming festivities.

“This year’s festival will not only preserve and celebrate our rich cultural heritage, but also serve as a platform to attract both domestic and international tourists to Vientiane,” said Mr. Saengsathit.

The festival, a major highlight of the Buddhist calendar, marks the conclusion of the three-month Buddhist Lent. It is traditionally celebrated with colorful processions, religious ceremonies, and the highly anticipated longboat races on the Mekong River, drawing large crowds to the riverbanks.

In addition to its cultural and spiritual importance, the event also plays a key role in supporting local economic growth. The festival will showcase Lao-made products through the "One District, One Product" (ODOP) initiative, aimed at promoting local goods as alternatives to imports. Organizers hope the event will stimulate trade, support small and medium-sized enterprises, and contribute to broader economic development in the region.

With preparations well underway and public excitement mounting, the 2025 Boat Racing Festival and End of Buddhist Lent celebration is expected to be a major draw for visitors and a proud display of Vientiane’s enduring cultural identity.

Small tourism and accommodation businesses in Laos are invited to a free online training on October 20, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, to learn how to register on Agoda, manage bookings, and boost international sales through improved online visibility and key platform tools.
