(KPL) Mr. Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, yesterday presented emergency relief supplies worth over 769 million LAK (approx. $36,000) to Xieng Khuang provincial authorities.

The aid, consisting of cash and essential goods, is intended to assist flood-affected communities and expedite recovery efforts in the northern province.

Severe Flooding Impacts Thousands

According to Xieng Khuang Governor Bounchan Sivongphan, heavy rainfall from July 21–26, triggered flash floods, landslides, and overflowing rivers, submerging 136 villages across 7 districts. The disaster claimed 4 lives, injured 11 people, and caused extensive property damage—marking one of the province’s worst flood events in recent years.

During the handover ceremony, Deputy PM Kikeo expressed deep sympathy for the victims and commended local authorities, mass organizations, and communities for their swift, coordinated response to the natural disaster.
