On July 25, 2025, Mr. Bounleua Phandanouvong, Acting Head of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, received Mr. Gerardo Peñalver Portal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, and his delegation, who are visiting the Lao PDR and other countries in the Asian region.

(KPL) On July 25, 2025, Mr. Bounleua Phandanouvong, Acting Head of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, received Mr. Gerardo Peñalver Portal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, and his delegation, who are visiting the Lao PDR and other countries in the Asian region.
During the meeting, Mr. Bounleua warmly welcomed the Cuban delegation and praised the visit as an important step toward strengthening the traditional bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Cuba. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the longstanding support provided by Cuba during Laos's struggle for national liberation, as well as its ongoing assistance in national defense and development.
Mr. Bounleua also acknowledged Cuba’s continued achievements in national defense, construction, and socio-economic development, commending the country’s enduring commitment to preserving the legacy of the Cuban Revolution over the past 60 years. He briefed the delegation on Laos’s recent progress in socio-economic development and the implementation of the 11th Party Congress resolutions, which are now in their final stages.
In response, Mr. Gerardo Peñalver Portal expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality and shared the outcomes of his meeting with the Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. He lauded the Lao PDR's accomplishments under the leadership of the LPRP, particularly in improving living standards and elevating the country's international standing.
Both sides reaffirmed the value of the long-standing cooperative ties between Laos and Cuba, and agreed on the need to review and accelerate the implementation of previous agreements. They also explored potential areas for future collaboration, particularly in politics, education, agriculture, and health. The two sides pledged to continue providing mutual support both bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks.
