Lao Women’s Union at Party Central Office Marks 70th Anniversary

KPL The Lao Women’s Union (LWU) at the Party Central Office held a commemorative ceremony on July 17, 2025, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the organization’s founding (July 20, 1955 – July 20, 2025). The event honored the Union’s historic role in national development and women’s empowerment.

(KPL) The Lao Women’s Union (LWU) at the Party Central Office held a commemorative ceremony on July 17, 2025, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the organization’s founding (July 20, 1955 – July 20, 2025). The event honored the Union’s historic role in national development and women’s empowerment.

The ceremony was co-chaired by Comrade Bouakham Sombathduangdong, Member of the Party Committee of the Party Central Office, Executive Member of the LWU Central Committee, and President of the Women’s Union at the Party Central Office; and Comrade Sinthamala Lanavong, Member of the Party Committee, Executive Committee Member, and Head of the Propaganda and Culture Department of the LWU Central Committee.

The event was attended by members of the Women’s Union Federation, women’s units, Union members, and invited guests working within the Party Central Office.

In her remarks, Comrade Sinthamala Lanavong recalled the historic founding of the Lao Women’s Union on July 20, 1955, shortly after the establishment of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on March 22, 1955. The Party had initiated a Women’s Work Research Unit, which laid the foundation for the present-day LWU. Since then, women of all ethnic groups in Laos have played a vital role in the struggle for national liberation, as well as in the ongoing efforts of nation-building and development.

Meanwhile, Comrade Bouakham Sombathduangdong outlined strategic directives for the Women’s Union at the Party Central Office, emphasizing the importance of continued progress and strong organizational values. The eight key directives included:

1. Strengthening political and ideological education among female members to foster revolutionary ethics, patriotism, unity, mutual support, and the preservation of Lao women’s cultural heritage.

2. Encouraging self-improvement and innovation to meet development goals.

3. Promoting women’s advancement by providing opportunities, protection, and support for their legitimate rights and interests.

4. Reinforcing organizational capacity at all levels.

5. Enhancing work methods to ensure greater relevance and impact.

6. Leading active participation in social movements and collaborating with other mass organizations within the Party Central Office.

7. Focusing on implementing the resolutions of the 6th Congress of the Women’s Union at the Party Central Office to achieve concrete outcomes.

8. Upholding and promoting Lao women’s values, ensuring they continue to live up to the honored title:

“Lao women are the outstanding daughters of the Party and the nation.”

The event served as a reflection of the Union’s enduring legacy and its continued role in shaping the future of women’s leadership and contributions to Lao society.
