Laos, OECD Strengthen Ties at Regional Forum

(KPL) Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane met with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann on the sidelines of the 2025 OECD-Southeast Asia Regional Forum in Bangkok on May 2.

The meeting aimed to bolster cooperation between the Lao PDR and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, with a focus on mobilizing OECD support for Laos through the Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP).

Minister Thongsavanh expressed gratitude for Laos' invitation to participate in the forum and acknowledged the OECD’s contributions to development in Southeast Asia. He emphasized Laos’ priorities in international collaboration, particularly in trade, investment, and infrastructure development.

Secretary-General Cormann commended Laos for its active engagement and highlighted the forum as a key platform for sharing policy experiences and enhancing development through OECD frameworks. He reaffirmed the OECD’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Laos and encouraged continued dialogue between relevant sectors.

This marked the first high-level meeting between the Lao PDR and the OECD Secretary-General since the establishment of SEARP in 2014.
