Authorities in Luang Prabang have announced an increase in the prices of drinking water and hygienic ice in response to rising production and transportation costs.
According to a notice issued on March 12, 2026 by the Luang Prabang Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce, the price of 18.9-litre bottled drinking water has been adjusted to 15,000 kip per bottle, while 20-kilogram bags of hygienic ice are now priced at 30,000 kip per bag.
The department said the adjustment applies to all drinking water producers, ice manufacturing groups, business operators, and residents within Luang Prabang City. The measure aims to ensure that product prices reflect the increasing costs faced by producers and suppliers.
Officials explained that the rise in production costs has been driven by several factors, including higher fuel prices, increased labour wages, transportation expenses, and the growing cost of living. These factors have significantly affected the overall cost structure for producing and distributing drinking water and ice in the province.
Under the new regulation, the price of 18.9-litre bottled drinking water has increased from 10,000 kip to 15,000 kip per bottle, while the price of 20-kilogram hygienic ice bags has risen from 25,000 kip to 30,000 kip per bag.
The department called on all relevant businesses and stakeholders to comply with the new pricing structure to ensure fair trade practices and maintain stable supply for consumers across the province.
