(KPL)The 22nd Japanese Martial Arts (Budo) Demonstration, organized by the Embassy of Japan in Laos, took place on January 25, 2025, at the Lao-Japan Budo Center in Vientiane.

The event saw participation from notable figures, including Minister of Education and Sports Phout Simmalavong, Japanese Ambassador to Laos Tsutomu Koizumi, and other officials.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Koizumi emphasized the significance of this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos. He noted, “To commence this memorial year, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited Japan from January 21 to 23. I am pleased to host today’s martial arts demonstration as a major event in Laos following the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan.”

Ambassador Koizumi also praised the spirit of martial arts, stating, “Lao martial artists who train under coaches, including those from the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), perform powerful demonstrations every year. The values of courtesy and respect embedded in martial arts will undoubtedly inspire future generations.”

The event featured skillful demonstrations from practitioners representing the Lao National Judo Federation, the Lao National Karatedo Federation, the Lao National Aikido Club, and the Lao Kendo Club. Spectators were treated to an impressive showcase of Budo techniques, embodying discipline and tradition.

In an engaging trial session, members of the audience were invited to try basic martial arts moves under the guidance of experienced instructors, adding an interactive dimension to the event.

This annual tradition, which began in 1966, continues to strengthen cultural ties between Japan and Laos, promoting the rich heritage of Japanese martial arts while fostering mutual respect and collaboration.
