(KPL) The Chinese Cultural Centre in Laos celebrated the 2025 Chinese New Year under the theme “Experience Hubei Culture in Laos” on January 17, 2025, at the Chinese Cultural Centre, Vientiane.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Vansi Kuamua, Chinese Ambassador to Laos Fang Hong, and Head of the China Cultural Centre in Laos Li Yiping.

In China, the Spring Festival symbolizes the beginning of the new year, which starts on the first day of the first month according to the Chinese lunar calendar. Before and after the festival, people engage in various social activities to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one, making wishes for prosperity.

Families gather to celebrate, fostering social unity. This tradition is known as the "New Year Celebration."

With the expansion and promotion of Chinese culture globally, the Spring Festival has become a recognized and admired symbol of Chinese culture worldwide.

Deputy Minister Vansi Kuamua stated that the event brought the rich and distinctive culture of Hubei province to the Lao people. Highlights included artistic performances, music, exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage, local cuisine, and paintings, all of which reflected the deep and vibrant cultural heritage of Hubei.

He emphasized that this event was not only a cultural exchange but also a demonstration of the strong ties between Laos and China under the Belt and Road Initiative, which continues to yield fruitful results.

Within the Belt and Road framework, the Laos-China Railway, a strategic connectivity project between the two countries, has become a pathway for development, prosperity, and friendship, bringing the two nations closer than ever.
