(KPL) – The 10th meeting of the Joint Lao-Cambodia and Cambodia-Laos Technical Border Sub-Commissions took place on November 7, 2024, in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, advancing collaborative efforts on border demarcation.
The Lao delegation was led by Mr. Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Laos-Cambodia Joint Border Technical Sub-Commission, while the Cambodian delegation was led by Mr. Ai Vuthy, Deputy Minister responsible for Cambodia’s Border Commission and Chairman of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Border Technical Sub-Commission. Representatives from relevant central and local agencies of both countries also attended.
The meeting reviewed and approved findings from the recent fourth border survey and marker installation session held on November 6, 2024, in Siem Reap, and endorsed a technical report issued on October 23, 2024, in Champasak Province, Laos. The report detailed the progress made, covering 80% of the shared border's demarcation. The session included in-depth discussions on further joint operations, including surveying and marking areas from positions 032/17 to 033/3, establishing directions and positions for markers between 033/3 and 034, removing old markers, and setting up new markers between positions 024 and 028.
Additionally, both sides outlined plans for future survey and demarcation work, particularly along the tri-border region shared by Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
This 10th meeting represented a critical milestone in reinforcing the bilateral cooperation needed to finalize the Laos-Cambodia border as a "zone of peace, friendship, and sustainable cooperation," in line with the shared vision of the two nations' leaders and citizens
