(KPL) The ASEAN Media Partners Cooperation Week, the fourth of its kind, opened on November 8 in Guilin, Guangxi, China, under the theme “New Quality Coexistence Civilization.”
The opening ceremony featured remarks from Mr. Fan Yun, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Media Group and Editor-in-Chief of CGTN, and Ms. Chen Yijun, a Standing Committee Member of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee and Head of its Publicity Department. Media representatives from China and ASEAN countries attended the event.
Deputy Director of the Lao News Agency (KPL), Ms. Sivanxay Siphankham, highlighted significant strides in Laos-China cooperation from 2021 to 2022. She noted that both countries have elevated their “Community with a Shared Future” to new levels of quality and ambition. “A new master plan was signed to guide our comprehensive strategic partnership, ushering in a new era for the Laos-China Community of Shared Future,” she said.
Ms. Sivanxay highlighted the Laos-China Railway project as a symbol of this deepening partnership, connecting Laos to the sea and transforming it from a landlocked nation to a hub for international trade.
She described the railway as a “golden route” for efficient and convenient trade.
Addressing challenges posed by artificial intelligence, she noted that AI’s ability to archive, replicate, and create media content can threaten the originality and integrity of professional journalism. She cautioned that AI could appropriate journalistic work, undermining the industry.
In response to these challenges, Ms. Siphankham called for ASEAN media to engage in regular exchanges of experiences and to foster new forms of collaboration. “Together, we must strive to elevate media quality and security, based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation,” she emphasized.
