PM Sonexay Welcomes AIIB President During ASEAN Summit

(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone received the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Jin Liqun, and his delegation in Vientiane on October 9, 2024.
 The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related events, being held from October 9-11.
During the meeting, both sides discussed opportunities for further cooperation between the AIIB and the Lao PDR, particularly in infrastructure development and regional connectivity. 
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in infrastructure projects and other key areas that are crucial for continued development in Laos and the broader ASEAN region.
Prime Minister Sonexay expressed his appreciation for Jin Liqun’s participation in the ASEAN Summits and conveyed his gratitude to the AIIB for its significant contributions to the socio-economic development of Laos. 
He highlighted the bank’s financial support for various infrastructure improvements, which have played a vital role in advancing the country’s progress.
The AIIB, established under the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, is a multilateral financial institution aimed at supporting infrastructure development in Asia and beyond. 
Currently, the bank has 80 member countries, including the Lao PDR. The AIIB’s mission aligns with the vision of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, focusing on fostering economic integration and sustainable development across the region.
