(KPL) Mr. Amphai Kindavong presented his credentials to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace on June 26, officially assuming the role of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Japan.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Amphai conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Thongloun Sisoulith to His Majesty. The occasion comes as Laos and Japan mark two key milestones: the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 60th anniversary of Japan’s volunteer assistance to Laos.

President Thongloun had the honor of meeting the Emperor during his visit to Japan in May for the 30th International Conference on the Future of Asia, hosted by Nikkei. The Lao people also warmly welcomed the news of Princess Aiko’s upcoming visit to Laos in November and expressed hope that His Majesty the Emperor and the Empress will visit Laos in the future.

Ambassador Amphai pledged to strengthen the enduring friendship between Laos and Japan and to elevate bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership by the end of 2025. His efforts will focus on deepening cooperation in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

Ambassador Amphai is the 16th Lao ambassador to Japan since the two nations established diplomatic relations on March 5, 1955.
