(KPL) The 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) concluded with great success on the afternoon of September 26, 2024, under the chairmanship of Phoxay Sayasone, Minister of Energy and Mines of Laos.

The meeting brought together energy ministers from ASEAN member states, along with representatives from Timor-Leste, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN Centre for Energy.

Minister Phoxay expressed his appreciation for the active participation of all delegations, particularly highlighting the insightful contributions from the energy ministers. Their recommendations were instrumental in shaping energy policies and strategies in alignment with ASEAN's vision.

Participants acknowledged the importance of stabilizing the energy supply, emphasizing the need to balance energy security with sustainable development. Discussions also centered on maximizing the efficient use of ASEAN’s energy resources to benefit all sectors.

Key topics included fostering deeper regional energy market integration through initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and enhanced gas pipeline connectivity. These efforts were deemed essential for building a resilient and interconnected energy market to meet both current and future demands.

The meeting further emphasized strengthening collaboration with development partners and international organizations to enhance the sharing of knowledge and expertise in the energy sector. Participants encouraged the adoption of innovative technologies in energy production and management to promote efficiency and cost reduction.

“The 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting achieved its expected outcomes, providing a solid foundation for continued consultation and joint efforts in the future,” Minister Phoxay noted in his closing remarks.
