(KPL) The province of Luang Namtha has been significantly affected by Typhoon Yagi, which triggered flash floods and caused extensive damage across several areas from September 8-10, 2024.

According to the Luang Namtha Provincial Administration Office, houses, farmlands, and public infrastructure have sustained severe damage, with several roads cut off and the total extent of property damage still being assessed.

Acting Permanent Secretary of the Provincial Administration Office, Somphavanh Chanthachackvong, reported that emergency response teams are being deployed to the hardest-hit areas. Local authorities are working to evacuate residents who remain stranded in their homes, moving them to safer locations.

In response to the disaster, temporary shelters have been established, and the province has set up distribution centers to provide essential supplies to those affected. The Provincial Administration Office has called on all sectors to support the relief efforts, either through donations or by coordinating assistance at the donation centre at Luang Namtha Provincial Hall.

Efforts to restore access to isolated areas and determine the full scale of the damage are ongoing. Officials are urging continued support and cooperation from both government agencies and the public.
