Laos, Russia further enhance cooperation on clearance of unexploded ordnance in Laos

The visit is a part of marking the 75th anniversary of the Lao People's Army (January 20, 1949-January 20, 2024)

The Lao People's Army, the Ministry of National Defense, in cooperation with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, the International Mine Action Center, the armed forces of the Russian Federation, are paying a close attention to the clearance of unexploded ordnances remain in Laos.

Now, the UXO clearance mission is carrying out in five villages of Viengekeo, Phonthieng, Phonsida, Viengamai and Namon, Kasi District, Vientiane Province.

The Russian Armed Forces' International Mine Action Centre is working area No. 1, with a total area of 9.4 hectares and No. 2 with a total area of 1.9 hectares.

Among them, the area for agricultural production was detected with explosives 25 centimeters deep and the area for urban expansion was detected with explosives 2.5 meters deep.
