The National Steering Committee for Laos' participation in the 2026 World Horticulture Expo held its inaugural meeting on July 29, launching preparations for the country's participation in two international horticultural exhibitions.

The meeting was chaired by Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Environment, and attended by deputy ministers from relevant ministries and representatives of participating agencies.
Laos is scheduled to take part in the World Horticulture Expo in Udon Thani, Thailand, in November 2026, followed by the World Horticulture Expo in Yokohama, Japan, in March 2027.
Participants reviewed the responsibilities of each subcommittee, the country's experience from previous horticultural exhibitions, and the concepts, themes, and exhibition formats for the events in Thailand and Japan. The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange lessons learned from past international expos.
Linkham commended the Secretariat and the subcommittees for their preparatory work and called for detailed implementation plans that clearly define the responsibilities of each committee.
He also emphasized the need for regular progress monitoring and reporting to senior leadership to ensure all preparations are completed on schedule and in line with the objectives of showcasing Laos at the two international exhibitions.
